My name is Michelle Dongeun Kim, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) providing online therapy, clinical consultation, and supervision in both English and Korean. I earned my B.A. in Psychology from DePaul University and my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Benedictine University.

My clinical work is grounded in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, and I have received extensive training through the IFS Institute. IFS serves as the foundation of my approach, guiding clients in understanding and healing the different parts of themselves with greater Self-leadership. My work is trauma-informed and culturally attuned, with a strong focus on identifying and unburdening legacy and cultural trauma that is often carried across generations.

I help clients recognize inherited beliefs, shame, survival strategies, and emotional burdens that may not have originated with them but continue to shape their relationships, identity, and sense of self. Through IFS work, we gently access and unburden these parts, allowing clients to experience greater internal freedom, emotional balance, and relational healing.

I have experience working in college counseling and private practice settings, supporting adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship challenges, grief, parenting concerns, addiction, and major life transitions. I also specialize in working with first- and second-generation immigrants navigating cultural identity, intergenerational patterns, and cross-cultural stressors.

As a 1.5-generation Korean immigrant who has raised second-generation children, I have a deep personal understanding of both cultures and the complexities of navigating between them. I am especially attuned to the challenges of identity, belonging, family expectations, and communication that often arise in immigrant families.

I am deeply committed to creating a thoughtful, respectful, and compassionate space where clients can safely explore their inner world, heal generational wounds, and move toward meaningful and lasting change.

When I'm not working with clients, you'll likely find me hanging out with my husband of 29 years and our adorable dog, Cookie. As empty nesters, we cherish our time together, whether it's taking leisurely walks or just relaxing at home. I also love writing, reading, and cooking. Getting lost in a good book, trying new recipes, and jotting down my thoughts bring me joy and balance. It's the little moments with loved ones that mean the most to me.
